Sedation dentistry enables the individuals who are too afraid to go to the dentist, to receive the dental care they need, as a Relaxing and Anxiety free experience.

According to the DENTAL ORGANISATION FOR CONSCIOUS SEDATION ( DOCS education ), 30 % of the population, avoids the dentists due to FEAR, referred to as “Dental Phobia”, preventing them from receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health and functionality of the mouth and smile.

Apart from the fear factor , patients who need multiple invasive treatment , procedures can be completed in a single appointment through sedation.

What is Sedation?

Sedation is a process used to establish a relaxed, easy and calm state through the use of sedatives. Sedative Drugs (tranquillizers, depressants, anti-anxiety medications, nitrous oxide. Etc.) can be administered in a variety of ways.

Benefits of Sedation

  • Patient relaxation
  • Increased comfort
  • Movement control
  • Patient co-operation
  • Control of gag reflex
  • No Memory of treatment
  • Time saving - Fewer appointments needed

Intravenous Sedation

“ In Prakash Dental Center we perform only Intravenous Sedation process”

Intravenous sedation (IV) - sedatives are delivered via injection into the blood vessels of the hand or arm. IV sedation is both safe and effective when administered by a trained professional.

IV Sedation tends to be the best method of choice if the patient, totally don’t want to be aware of the procedure; if the patient “don’t want to know.” It is highly reliable, safe & effective for comfort & amnesia during all types of treatment & can only be administered by a Board Certified Sedation Dentist. IV Sedation’s onset of action is immediate & can be increased easily & rapidly to meet the individual’s needs. Its level of sedation can be adjusted deeper and can be continued for longer periods of time than sedative pills. Analgesics (pain medication) can simultaneously be administered directly through the IV offering immediate total pain relief during the procedure. This is a huge advantage compared to oral sedation, where its effects cannot be adjusted or rapidly increased & analgesics are not be administered simultaneously. Oral sedation is not nearly as reliable or effective in that in many cases, patients find “it’s just not enough sedation.”

FACTS ABOUT INTRAVENOUS SEDATION

  • It is very safe
  • It is extremely effective for moderate to severe fear
  • It is much more effective than sedative pills & can last as long as necessary
  • IT CAN ONLY BE ADMINISTERED BY A BOARD CERTIFIED SEDATION EXPERT
  • You will have absolutely no memory of the procedure
  • Longer dental visits that take hours will seem like just a few minutes
  • The recovery time from the IV medicine is relatively quick
  • Analgesics (pain killers) can be administered with the IV during treatment
  • It is very effective for Implant Surgery & Oral Surgery
  • It is very effective for longer procedures like Smile Makeovers & Dental Reconstruction
  • Treatment that would normally take multiple appointments can be completed in just a few visits
  • Years of problems or neglect can be corrected in a short time
  • You will need a companion to drive you to & from your appointments

Sedation Injections and Anaesthetic Injections

Sedation injections are different from anaesthetic injections. Although sedation may raise your pain threashold for pain, most dental treatments still require a local anaesthetic , injected int he mouth, even when the sedation dentistry is performed. This local anaesthetic will temporarily block pain impulses from the affected teeth and gum tissue. However, this injection will occur after the patient is already sedated ad comfortable, and they will not feel or remember the sensation of having the injection.
